Things to do in Westchester County for women who want to actually meet people

Westchester has plenty to do. That is not the problem. The problem is doing it alone.

You can find a nice restaurant, a good hiking trail, a farmers market on a Saturday morning. None of that is hard. What is hard is turning any of it into a social life. You go, you do the thing, you drive home. Nobody talks to you. Nobody knows your name. You have technically been “out” but you are no less alone than you were sitting on your couch.

We hear some version of this from almost every woman who joins Club West. The activities exist. The connection does not.

So here is a list of things to do in Westchester County, but with a twist: we are only including stuff where you might actually meet someone.

Fitness classes at smaller studios

Big gyms are fine for working out but terrible for meeting people. Nobody talks at a big gym. The smaller studios — Pilates, barre, yoga, dance — are different. You see the same people every week. Conversations happen before and after class. It takes a few weeks but regulars start to recognize each other.

Our members are big on yoga and Pilates specifically. We run group fitness events at studios across the county, and a lot of members say those were where they made their first friends in the club.

If you want the social part without having to find a studio on your own, our fitness events handle all of that. You just show up.

Volunteering

This one is underrated. Volunteer events put you next to people for a few hours with something to do with your hands, which takes the pressure off conversation. You are not sitting across from a stranger trying to make small talk. You are packing boxes or cleaning up a park and talking happens naturally.

We run volunteer days through Club West a few times a year, and they are consistently some of our most popular events. Check our volunteering guide if you want to find opportunities on your own.

Local events and festivals

Westchester has a solid calendar of seasonal events, especially in fall. Apple picking, outdoor concerts, street fairs, holiday markets. The problem is going alone does not solve the loneliness issue. You walk around, you eat a funnel cake, you leave.

What does work is going with a group. That is why we post events and coordinate group outings through our Discord constantly. Someone posts “anyone want to go to the Yonkers waterfront festival Saturday?” and ten people say yes.

Book clubs and discussion groups

If you like structure, a recurring group that meets monthly is one of the best ways to build friendships. Book clubs work because there is a built-in topic. You do not have to carry the conversation. The book does half the work.

We run book clubs through Club West, and our members also organize their own through Discord. Libraries across the county — Yonkers, White Plains, New Rochelle — also run free groups if you want to start there.

Happy hours and brunches

Simple but effective. A drink or a meal with a group of women you are getting to know. The trick is doing it repeatedly with the same people, not once with strangers.

We host happy hours and brunches at spots across Westchester on a regular rotation. A lot of our members say the second or third one is where it clicked — you walk in and actually know people.

Or just join a club that does all of it

The reason Club West works is that it bundles all of this into one place. Fitness, social events, book clubs, brunches, volunteer days, seasonal outings. You do not have to find each thing individually and hope for the best. You just join and the calendar is full.

Over a thousand women have joined since we launched in September 2025. Membership is $10/month and you can apply here.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best things to do in Westchester County if I want to meet people?

Anything with a recurring schedule and a consistent group. Fitness classes at smaller studios, book clubs, volunteer shifts, social clubs. They work because you keep seeing the same faces. One-off events are fun but they do not usually turn into real friendships.

Are there social groups for women in Westchester?

Club West is a social club for women 21+ with regular events, a private Discord, and over a thousand members across the county. There are also Meetup groups, professional networking organizations, and Facebook groups, though those tend to be narrower in what they offer. Our guide to women’s groups in Westchester covers all of them.

How do I meet people in Westchester if I just moved here?

Pick one thing and go regularly for at least a month. A fitness class, a book club, a social club. It feels awkward the first couple of times. That fades. Our guide to meeting people in Westchester goes deeper on this.

What is Club West?

Is there anything to do in Westchester besides hiking and restaurants?

More than you think. Farmers markets, pottery classes, wine tastings, live jazz at Jazz Forum Arts in Tarrytown, brewery taprooms like Captain Lawrence, volunteer opportunities, book clubs at local libraries, community events through ArtsWestchester. The options are there. The harder part is finding people to do them with.
