If you have searched “women’s groups near me” from somewhere in Westchester, you are not alone. It is one of the most common things our members tell us they googled before finding Club West.
The good news is there are options. The not-as-good news is that finding the right one takes some digging because they are scattered across different platforms, different towns, and different formats. Here is a rundown of what actually exists.
Facebook groups
There are a handful of women’s Facebook groups covering Westchester. Some are active. Some posted last in 2022. The active ones tend to be good for recommendations — restaurants, dentists, that kind of thing — but less good for actually meeting people in person. You can ask a question and get 40 responses, but nobody is organizing a dinner.
If you are looking for information, Facebook groups work. If you are looking for friends, they are a starting point at best.
Meetup
Meetup.com has some Westchester groups for women. The quality varies a lot. Some are well-run with regular events. Some have one organizer who burned out six months ago and the page just sits there. Check the “past events” section before joining — if nothing has happened in three months, it is probably dead.
The groups that do work on Meetup tend to be activity-specific. A hiking group, a dinner group, a crafting group. That is fine if you know what you want, but you end up joining five different groups to get a full social life.
Professional and networking organizations
There are women’s professional groups in Westchester — chambers of commerce chapters, industry-specific networking groups, organizations like the Women’s Enterprise Development Center. These are great if you are building your career or your business, but the vibe is professional, not personal. You might make a business contact. You probably will not make a friend you text on a Tuesday.
Moms’ groups
If you have kids, there are established moms’ groups across the county. MOPS chapters, library story time groups, school-connected parent organizations. These can be great for meeting other moms, but they are obviously limited to parents. And a lot of women tell us the friendships they make through kids’ activities fade when the kids change schools or activities.
Religious and cultural organizations
Churches, synagogues, mosques, and cultural centers across Westchester have women’s groups. If you are part of a faith community, these are worth looking into. They tend to have strong retention because the community already has a shared foundation.
Club West
We started Club West because we noticed a gap. There were groups for specific activities, groups for moms, groups for professionals, and online-only groups. There was not much for women who just wanted a social life — regular events, a group chat, people to grab dinner with on a Friday.
